"I get closer, it brings me further" could mean that when they get closer to finding a way out of their despair, they end up being further down in their depression. I think this because Caleb Shomo (The lead singer) sings "Or is it in my head" which could mean that he notices this, but isn't sure if it's just something he's making up in his mind or not.
