“Once More to See You'' is about a secret relationship. I think it's either because of the other person’s sexuality, popularity or overall status following the lines “In the rear view mirror, I saw the setting sun on your neck and felt the taste of you bubble up inside me but with everybody watching us, our every move, we do have reputations.” Mitski cannot even look at this partner in their eyes as it raises too much suspicion that their relationship is more than they let on. She is feeling unfulfilled by the relationship as they are keeping things on the low, Mitski wants them to be more than whatever they are, she wants to be affectionate but “what will everyone think?” is the obstacle. With the line “If you would let me give you pinky promise kisses” I believe “pinky promise kisses” are a promise or commitment that Mitski and her partner could make but her partner won't let her make those promises or commitment because her partner knows they can't live up to them.
