This song is uplifting to me, and it tells how they got over a boy, and how they had gotten 'stronger' in a way. They're singing about how they've become better since said boy broke up with said girl, and now said girl is proving how she's better without him.

He's really in a bad situation because of her, but he wants to make it look like he's ok. He still loves her, and he's having a hard time thinking straight because she's always on his mind.
