This song appears to assimilate someone who is stuck in an abusive or hostile relationship. Having their freedom aka "wings clipped" - effectively stripping them of their independence. And the depressing thought of it is that they fall into the role of victim without a second thought. Despite being smart and energetic with happiness in the past this person is willingly choosing to be locked away in a failing relationship. Suffering with naivety that the relationship will flutter once again.
