I Used to Be Fat Lyrics

I used to be fat. I used to hang like sourdough.
If you gave me a slap, you'd feel the waves in Mexico.
I was so scared of going to school every morning.
Because people would stare, like I was a beast or something.
At lunch I would hide from all the bullies and tough guys with girls in their laps, looking for someone to pick a fight with.
Sometimes after school, they'd drag me under the bleachers.
They would take a turn, at punching me right in the mouth.
And they'd laugh out loud, like I was some sort of animal.
And the girl that I liked watched me over their shoulders.
When I used to go home, my mama asked what happened to me.
I told her these lies, and went to my room in privacy.
I used to cry. I'd cry so hard that I couldn't breath.
Wondering why, this was happening to me.
I thought it was my fault.
I thought it was my fault.
I got kicked out of school. I couldn't focus on anything.
I disappointed my dad. No one understood me.

But I had a dream that took me to places I'd never seen.
A place I could smile, and get lost in a maze of melody.
And now I am here, 15 years since then.
Talking to you, hoping that you can hear me.
And all of those fools that used to laugh and point at me.
They come to my shows. They sing and want to be like me.
But they'll never know exactly what I used to be.
Between me and you, I will forgive what they did to me.
I used to be fat. And I don't regret a single thing.
