Thrift Store Personality
Lyrics
I went down to a thrift store
To buy myself a new personality
Because another one really didn't seem to work
So I guess it's time for a brand new me
I'll walk up and down up and down the fabric-lined aisles
Hoping to find a style
That will suffice for a while
But, no matter how many times I've tried
Changing a look doesn't change the inside
But, no matter how many clothes I obtain
It doesn't heal the wounds
It doesn't mask the pain
Where to next after where I've been
Thrown aside
Cast away
I'm in the dollar bin
I try to be different
I try to change but still
I'm back to dumpster-diving at the local Goodwill
I need a new person to be
All these attempts last only temporarily
Oh God is it really that easy to see
I buy who I am
A thrift store personality
I look at clothes after clothes
Hanging up on their racks
I'll analyze and analyze a disguise
That'll make up for what I lack
A brand new face from a different place
That I can buy put on and assume
I found it in the back aisle
Between the Christmas sweaters and Halloween costumes
But, maybe it won't work for me
Found it at Salvation Army
But, maybe I couldn't pull it off
An old dude just left it in the drop-off
Where to next after where I've been
Thrown aside
Cast away
I'm in the dollar bin
I try to be different
I try to change but still
I'm back to dumpster-diving at the local Goodwill
I need a new person to be
All these attempts last only temporarily
Oh God is it really that easy to see
I buy who I am
A thrift store personality
