At the Opera
Lyrics
I hear the opera from my neighbor's shower.
The walls here don't get much more thin.
Sometimes I mind it, tonight I like it. I just sit here, listening.
Songs of the war ahead. Songs of their true love.
And how they could not forget. Love them forever.
Here in the rafters.
You called me to say that it's gone the same way. And you don't think you can go back.
You said it's just been the same thing, since you were 13. They want to punish you for what's in your head.
I said I understand. Just like I always have.
Remember when we were kids? You weren't scared of anything.
Here in the rafters. Watch out for the war ahead. Wait for my true love.
Because I want to dance again.
I hit the center, where the people gather. The concrete bends from the weight.
I see them talk and fight. And laugh and they cry. My heart swells and I can't believe that I could feel so much. In spite of everything. And how we all still show up. In spite of what they say to you and me.
Here in the rafters. Watch out for the war ahead. Wait for my true love.
And all that I cannot grasp.
