End of the day and I’m stuck in my head again
End of the week and I can’t even rest
I tell myself that I’m better than getting caught up but I do it even at my best.
All the excitement from accolades fleeting
The only thing permanent seems to be stress
I could be goated. Hell I could sell billions of records I still couldn’t catch me a breath
Society praises the hustle mentality
That work every day to the death
My daddy before me was like this as well
But at age 57 we laid him to rest
That got me thinking of all the comparisons
I do subconsciously. All of the tests.
Is it all worth it in hopes that one day in the future I’ll see myself as a success?
Maybe it’s something I need to do now
A different perspective. A change of the lens
Maybe my value is not to be found in a fortune
Instead it’s something in my chest
Learn to love me for the man that I’ve managed to be despite all I observe and repress
Maybe we’re blessed
