Sedated?
To me, its about drug use and experience in an attempt to get away from something bothering them. As an addict in recovery I could relate very well with these lyrics describing that kind of situation. It might seem like the "glaring obvious" meaning but sometimes there's nothing deeper than what is said on the surface and when we try to put a deeper meaning into something that possibly doesn't have one we wind up missing the message it carries in the wind.
Certain periods of the middle class, post-2000, peoples' life. Longing and chasing, getting busy with all tons of crap that quite often don't matter for nothing, just keeping busy 24/7, and only the moment when even the tinniest glimpse of light fades away from your eyes, the very moment before you drown into sleep, you see fireworks framing the "my heart's atrophy" line, wishing there would be someone there to share your pillow with..
