Bowtie Blues
Lyrics
Well I'd try to explain it but lets just say that I was blinded by the light
When Fast Eddie Estafa popped the hood
And the chromed out engine shown so bright
This thing was BEAT UP, squeaks and noises
But brother I'd fallen under a spell
And I handed over my hard earned bread for the keys to that 71 Chevelle
I barely made it to my driveway and had already overheated
And when I turned it off it chug-chug-chug-chugged on and on
I was coming to realize that I'd been cheated
There was antifreeze and oil gatherin up in puddles on the ground
My old man took one look and said
"Hey Bones, that's quite a bargain that you've found"
I know it ain't much to look at
But I'm still proud to own it
It puts the meaning in the saying
If it don't go - chrome it
It's mostly rust and holes and primer with a spot to polish here or there
It just needs a couple cans of elbow grease and some tender lovin care
You could say it was like a bomb that had forgotten to explode
And it left an oil slick like the exxon valdez as I drove it down the road
The months went by and by and I'm not sure if was my knuckles or my heart
That were more busted up day after day as it just fell more apart
It was quite an education I was getting in my backyard university
I was majoring in car repair and figured I was earning my Masters Degree
And when the engine I'd rebuilt fired up for the first time
I couldn't help but dance and cheer
Standing in the picture window was my old man just grinning from ear to ear
