Too Many Coffins
Lyrics
This is a shout-out to Larry-T.
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins, you’ll never be forgotten
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins, you’ll never be forgotten
I went on Facebook and saw that you were gone
Young homie flew away, he tried to stay strong
It’s so hard to get proper help up here
I wish all of our problems would just disappear
I wish the support we have is what we deserved
Wish we were treated like what we are worth
But things haven’t changed, and it’s getting worst
We all gotta learn to use our voice
I’m feeling insecure living on my homeland
Ain’t no place like home, it’s my home, man
We need to bring the unity, and reclaim our identity
In order to have a better community
I’m sad that we’ve lost many people
To be treated like this should be considered illegal
Everyone should be treated equally
So we gonna rise up to the possibilities
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins, you’ll never be forgotten
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins, you’ll never be forgotten
[INSERT INUKTITUT PEEAND-EL VERSE HERE]
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins
Rest in peace, homie
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins, you’ll never be forgotten
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins, you’ll never be forgotten
Too many have fallen, I could hear them calling
Too many coffins, you’ll never be forgotten
Last month I travelled to seven Nunavut communities visiting over 100 homes
All homes I went to had mold
Most of them were overcrowded
I also heard parents losing their children to the foster care system because their home was deemed unfit
I have heard stories of parents finding their children hanging from the ceiling
I have heard stories of elders forced to live with people that abuse them
The lack of basic human rights for Indigenous peoples results in death
Inuit are dying and have been before this pandemic
Since the day I was born Inuit have heard promises of a good life
Of positivity of being able to contribute to society in a healthy way
To have basic human rights
And we continue to have those promises broken to us
