Succotash
Lyrics
We all look forward to a new day
But, as I look around I'm reminded of Revelation 12:9, 12
"So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan
Who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth
And his angels were hurled down with him" heh
(You know, sometimes we're not prepared for adversity)
And as we look on to verse 12, it says, "On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them!
Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger"
Go on the go; they say go with the flow
But it's torrential; know it's official
Time's are critical like people of the times
And time is minimal; hard to give, hard to find
That's why I'm cynical
Although tech goes on to reach new pinnacles
The lows humans go to seem to reach new pitifuls
We fight for rights, but wrong's prolonged
In media's same old songs
Melodies of felonies, chords of discord
Harmonies of full armories
Rhythms of corrupt systems
Dissonance by divisions
Signature our time's given
When the motif is your grief, you want to give in
Told the key of life is happiness that's free
But ain't paid the cost of living
So pay your rent, pay your dues, pay for your utilities
Then we're told to dream on, despite its likely futility
And if we want a day job, we still come across hostility
Injustice happens daily, but no one's responsibility
Assaulted sexually? Shouldn't have worn that dress to be!
Assaulted battery? Been charged before; he has to be!
Insulted? Glad to be! I'm right, you're wrong; why you mad at me?
Repulsive enough to me like suffering succotash
Suffering Succotash
Suffering Succotash
I never believed that I'd end up like my mother
Single and struggling to raise my young daughter and her brother
Making just enough to pay the bills and loans with doubles
At the clinic nursing, so I'm not around for my kids' troubles
Running their mouths gets discipline, whippings, and then I'm missing
Wishing I could be more present like the school that they're skipping
It wasn't long ago I studied, so I could give them
A better life than the one that I'm currently living
Cause I had them too early. And just to keep the lights on
I'm working to 2:30. And if I had the right one, ain't taken and who's searching
Then maybe I can stabilize
No, I don't need a man, but wouldn't mind one who's able a'ight
Cause I want have quality time with my kids
Letting them know how important their education really is
Not letting their environment get them stuck on a path
Leading them and their mother to screaming suffering succotash
Suffering Succotash
Suffering Succotash
Man I hate twelve
Three years from now, I'm supposed to be grade twelve
At three years, I was told my father can't make bail
Still haven't seen him since then, so I guess that makes twelve
Years he's been locked up, and mom just
Left him for a man who ran when she was knocked up
And my sister they made is twelve
Now people make mistakes, and mom's working for our sake
So let me help to make this cake and move this weight scale
Now why, pray tell, would I go dad's same trail
I'll defer to jane instead of slanging yayo
Truant to be a student of those who make bankroll
Since I could never crack books and this year I may fail
Plus, why wait twelve months to make twelve times less
Working part-time? When it comes to pay, crime's best
Time struck midnight: initiation to make sales
Crime bust; weapons drawn to the target to aim: twelve
"On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them!
Woe for the earth and for the sea
Because the Devil has come down to you
Having great anger, knowing that he has a short period of time"
Cause as Psalm 37: 10, 11 read
"Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more
You will look at where they were
And they will not be there
But the meek will possess the earth
And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace"
