As someone who is disabled, this song has a bit of a different meaning to me. It illustrates someone who is struggling through daily life and giving their all while being surrounded by people who still want more from them. The beginning lyrics, "Now its long enough to talk about it. I've started not to doubt it, just wrap my head around it" shows a sort of begrudging acceptance of having something happen that affected someone deeply. Then it goes into someone saying "its an everyday decision", which is something I have been told in reference to both my disability and my mental health issues where people tell me that I am chosing to live the way I am because i dont "choose to be happy" everyday. The chorus shows someone crushed that their all isnt enough for everyone, except for one person who knows that they are trying.
Gilded Lily
Lyrics
Now it's been long enough to talk about it
I've started not to doubt it, just wrap my head around it
I remember when you told me it's an everyday decision
But with my double vision, how was I supposed to see the way?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Always the fool with the slowest heart
But I know you'll take me with you
We'll live in spaces between walls
Every city's got a graveyard
A service bought and paid for
Now I'm sleepin' in the backyard
Passin' out as night turns into day
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Always the fool with the slowest heart
But I know you'll take me with you
We'll live in spaces between walls
Go and stretch out my arms long as they need to be
Turn off all alarms and lie to me
Go and stretch out my arms long as they need to be
Turn off all alarms and lie to me
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Haven't I given enough, given enough?
Always the fool with the slowest heart
But I know you'll take me with you
I know I'll take you with me
Always the fool with the slowest heart
But I know you'll take me with you
We'll live in spaces between walls

What is the Meaning of Gilded Lily
?
i like to think the chorus talks about expectations of them being to high, whether from friends, parents, authorities, etc. i like relating interpretations of songs to my life experiences, so i'll so the parents expect too much of the singer. and then 'always the fool with the smallest heart' (again, i like to relate songs to my own life) is talking about how the singer feels bad for not feeling/understanding emotions as well as everyone else seems to
This song sounds like an avoidant who ended a relationship some time ago and has only now had the space and time needed to miss their ex. They are putting their ex on a phantom ex pedestal, idealizing them only when there is no chance of actual reconnection. They are only free to love when the love is gone.
Cults described it as ,,finding hope in a hopeless situation" , and the lycris that really speak to me ,,But i know you'll take me with you" this could indicate a person helping other person out from the dark night and pulling them into the light :)♥
