What Is Art Lyrics

What is Art
Art is a manifestation
A semi-lost-in translation interpretation
Of dreamers being conduits
Energy given physical form
Splashed across a wall, drip, drip, dripping down
Our way to wrap our lips and tongues and teeth
Around that which we cannot always hold in our hands
Ephemeral meaning that reflects the culture of the time
Sometimes it fades and crumbles
But stands mighty and larger than life
Even after its interpreters fall to dust
And new artists
Translate it into new forms
Reflecting a myriad of mediums
Inspiring more art
Rippling, timeless, infinite
Healing, a snippet of soul
Honest, an invitation into a journey
Harmful, in shaking up societies
Hopeful, as small things are
A ritual begetting rituals
Evolving with each breath
My art tastes like freedom feels
Grants permission to relish in the nuances
In the taboo, in the dark joy
Bold lines fueled by fierce that splatter across tastebuds
Colors clashing to crack open your brains
But gently squeeze and tug at your hearts
A cacophony resonating in your soul
Starting to remind you of your earliest memory
To drop you out of your story and into another's worn shoes
To give voice to faint echoes that were never taken seriously
My work is never caught sitting still
Movement woven with grace and carelessness
Equal in measure one moment
Fluid and abstract the next
There's endless possibilities
In all that you can't pin down with labels
My art gives an encouraging push for you to also yank back from the rules
People may have tried to get you to memorize
Pry up the rotting wood nailed signs peeling with paint
That say No Diving Allowed
And whispers to you gently
Reminders to take a leap of faith
Let the water embrace you
And flow to your own beats
Pulsing with electricity
That only you can manifest into the world
