What is the Meaning of A Sky Full of Stars

I was watching a documentary on space the other day and it struck me, that, "stars" may be in so much use in songs' lyrics and that's all to be expected when there's so much magic surrounding them, their birth, life and death are so extraordinary phenomenons!
I think the song is about a person who loves another person with all their heart but the feeling is no longer mutual. She wants to move on with her life, but all he can think about is her. The thought of this kills him from the inside but at the same time his love for her is too strong, so it doesn't matter as she will always be his bright spot.
