Insects Lyrics

Felt so familiar
Kitchen bare but cupboards full
I never felt the pull like this before
So I grabbed some canned food and ran for the door

Two eyes appeared before, and stared through, me
Looking so hard they couldn't see
Who they thought I was
Just because, just because

Dear home, I'm gone, I'm lost
Don't look, I'll never be
The distant light is catching, catching up with me
I thought I had a choice but clearly you can see
The distant light is pulling, pulling, pulling me

All cans were empty and my shoes were getting worn
My will and my jacket, torn
Resolve and shoulders, tired
After a fortnight, concrete faded out of grass
I slept under the overpass
With no cars around to disturb

My father's face, forgot
My mother's voice, obscured
My fear of losing everything, forever cured
I hadn't seen my own reflection in a week
Tongue tied too tight to try to speak

Ten tiny tigers took turns trying to torture time
My mind made mean messes moving mine
Inside insects intertwined

Heavy-hearted Harry hacked his hatchet halfway home
Headlining Hell's Hippodrome
Happy, human homophones

Naysayers not-withstanding, no-one needed news
Nothing neutral, naked, nearly ninety-two
Battered beasts beg beastly bats beginning bites
Swearing 'Someone save me from these sickening sights!'

After almost a year some order was restored
The people left were getting bored
Of living in utopia
My blurring vision gave me a suspicious mind
And other thoughts of the same kind
But who am I to question me
