Who is Roy Orbison?
Roy Kelton Orbison was a singer, songwriter and musician nicknamed the Big O and known for his darkly emotional ballads and strong voice. He was born on April 23, 1936 in Vernon, Texas and died at the age of 32 on December 6, 1988 in Hendersonville, Tennessee. In just four years from 1960 to 1964, 22 of Orbison's songs made it onto the Billboard Top 40 chart, including "Only the Lonely" and "Oh, Pretty Woman." He won six Grammy Awards, including a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. He had been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one year earlier.
