Who is Pete Townshend?
The English musician, songwriter and singer Peter Dennis Blandford "Pete" Townshend was born on May 19, 1945 in Chiswick, London, England. Townshend is best known as the lead songwriter and guitarist for the rock group The Who. Over Townshend's more than five decades with The Who, the band grew to become one of the most influential bands of the rock era. The Who had their first hit in 1965 with "I Can't Explain," a song Townshend wrote mimicking the sound of the Kinks Townshend also had successful stints as a solo artist starting in the late 1960s. He has released seven solo albums.
