Nicki Minaj was born Onika Tanya Maraj December 8, 1982 in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago. She was raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York and gained public notability as an American rapper, singer and songwriter. She earned attention after releasing three mixtapes Playtime is Over (2007), Sucka Free (2008), and Beam Me Up Scotty (2009). This got her her recording contract with Young Money Entertainment in 2009. Her debut studio album entitled Pink Friday (2010) reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 including huge hit "Starships”.
