Who is Grandmaster Caz?
Born in the Bronx, Grandmaster Caz, also known as Curtis Fisher, was the first person to both MC and DJ at the same time in the history of hip-hop. While his rhymes are known due to “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugar Hill Gang, the artist never received credit for his work at that time. In 1974, Caz discovered DJ Kool Herc and went out and purchased his own equipment. After his brief time with the Sugar Hill Gang, Caz began working with the Cold Crush Brothers, which were successful into the 1980s. His last release was in 2000, the single “MC Delight”.
