Have you ever had that feeling of pure life running through your veins after surviving a rough life patch? Well, that is precisely what Sia is singing about in her new song “Alive”, so take a listen (in case you haven’t already).
Did you Know?
This brilliant number was originally meant to be sung by Adele as well as Rihanna, but both of them rejected the number, for reasons unknown. We will never know if that was a mistake or not, but what we do know for sure is that Sia’s performance is absolutely mind-blowing, her voice sending chills down your spine, thanks in great part to the amazing skills of the song’s producer, Jesse Shatkin. And, it is a perfect track to introduce her new album This Is Acting that we anxiously await.
What is Sia Telling us?
“Alive” is definitely one of the most amazing and emotional ballads released this year. Simply put, it speaks of life, opening our minds up to a very important distinction: simply surviving the hardships isn’t the same as truly living. The world will always try to bring you down, one way or the other:
I had a one way ticket to a place where all the demons go
Where the wind don’t change and nothing in the ground can ever grow
No hope just lies, and you’re taught to cry into your pillow
But I survived
But in order to really feel alive, you need to find the inner strength, belief in yourself. You need to choose life, to choose to be strong and refuse to give in to fear:
I found solace in the strangest place, way in the back of my mind
I saw my life in a strangers face, and it was mine
Don’t run away from hardship. Say I’m alive
and fight. Watching the music video for the track, you will realize one more thing: the hardest thing to overcome is stuck right inside your head. You have to win a fight with yourself in order to be able to stand up to the world. Watching the figures that appear in the video, figures whose faces are always hidden, you realize: if you run, you are only running away from yourself. Look yourself in the eye and choose to be strong.
